Enjoy Mash-Up Recipes To Celebrate Once In A Lifetime Overlap of Chanukah and Thanksgiving
Newark, NJ (November, 2013) - NEWARK, NJ (November, 2013) – The Manischewitz® Company, the leader in Kosher foods, is inviting consumers everywhere to celebrate Thanksgivukah! For the first time since Thanksgiving became a legal holiday, the Jewish celebration of Chanukah coincides with Thanksgiving. The first day of Chanukah falls on the same day of Thanksgiving, which this year is on Thursday, November 28. This incidence of the holidays will not happen for another 70,000 years! Manischewitz® is honoring the once in a lifetime occurrence with contests, e-cards, mash-up recipes and more!
Many recipes for Thanksgiving and Chanukah share a common ingredient- broth. The Manischewitz® line of all natural broths are the Official Broth of Thanksgivukah and are perfect for all kinds of cooking for Thanksgivukah meals! Turkey is the newest broth to join Chicken, Reduced Sodium Chicken, Beef and Vegetable.
To jump-start your Thanksgivukah menu, chef and cookbook author Jamie Geller has teamed up with Manischewitz® to create recipes that take advantage of the culinary offerings of both holidays. Recipes such as Turkey Latkes with Black Pepper Gravy, Cranberry Latkes and Caramelized Corn, Onion and Thyme Donut Holes are sure to be enjoyed by everyone at Thanksgivukah celebrations across the country.
The unique coexistence of holidays is due to the differences between the Jewish calendar, which is based on lunar cycles, and the secular calendar. The secular calendar always has Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November. Chanukah is celebrated on the same Jewish calendar dates, but because of the differences in the calendars, it falls on different secular dates each year. All of the details and differences surrounding the Jewish and secular calendars has resulted in the early arrival of Chanukah, with the first day being Thanksgiving.
Thanksgivukah will be honored in many other ways leading up to the holidays. A mash-up recipe contest will run from October 28, 2013 through November 10, 2013 by logging onto the Manischewitz® Facebook page. Using the great selection of mash-up recipes from Manischewitz® as inspiration, consumers are asked to create and submit their own unique Thanksgivukah Mash-Up recipes for a chance to win great prizes. Recipes, including mash-ups, can be found online at www.manischewitz.com or in the new, free Manischewitz Recipe & Holiday Guide App*. The app includes hundreds of delicious, kosher recipes from past Cook-Off winners, kosher chefs, and home chefs, including the new Mash-Up recipes from chef and cookbook author Jamie Geller. Best of all, all the recipes, from either their website or app, are so simple to make that they will allow you to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with your guests.
