What is your favorite holiday to cook for?
My absolute favorite is Thanksgiving; however, every Sunday I invite my family for supper. This is the time I try new recipes and experiment with different flavors and cuisines. These weekend meals bring our family together to share time with each other and learn about our experiences throughout the week. I really think this has helped my children to learn the importance of having a strong family unit.
What kitchen utensil you can't live without?
My large Boos Block!!!! LOVE IT...if I had room I would buy one in every size.
What is your favorite meal of the day?
For me, every meal is good! Truthfully, it's really hard for me to pass up any meal during the day.
Who is your favorite celebrity chef?
This is easy...I have two favorite celebrity chefs, Bobby Flay and Michael Simon. I love Bobby for his bold, spicy flavors and Michael Simon, well you can't help but love him, he has such a positive demeanor and contagious laugh!!!! Also, Michael Simon supports Autism Speaks, an organization for the awareness of autism spectrum disorders. Being a school psychologist, I often work with children with autism. Therefore, his organization is near and dear to my heart.
What ingredient do you use the most?
Most definitely...garlic and onions!!! If I could, I would include them in my desserts. Being from Florida, I find myself using citrus quite a bit too. I love oranges and the way they can heighten the flavor of most foods.
What is your favorite cookbook?
I treasure my Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cookbook." As a child, I remember watching her cooking shows on television. I was mesmerized by Julia, and my parents couldn't believe I'd prefer to watch her over more age-appropriate programs, such as cartoons. For me, Julia Child was a pioneer, a visionary, and exemplary teacher. She demystified the art of French cooking, bringing into the American household.
What are you looking forward to the most at the finals?
I love live cook-offs and the thrill of the competition!!! I am looking forwarding to meet my fellow finalists and meeting the folks at Manischewitz.
What would winning mean to you?
For me, it's about knowing that I prepared a dish that was tasteful and well executed, with quality products such as those of Manischewitz, and that it was liked by the judges.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I auditioned for "Survivor", was never called but...would love to be on their show one day!
