Q. What is the Man-O-Manischewitz Cook-Off?
A. Now in it's seventh year, the Manischewitz Cook-Off is a fun and entertaining recipe contest. Create an original kosher entree or soup recipe that uses Manischewitz Ready-to-Serve Broth. The recipe must be prepared in one hour or less. Have a great recipe? You can submit it here. The contestants with the top five recipes, as determined by a private panel of judges, will be sent to Manischewitz Headquarters for a 2013 Cook-Off showdown where a winner will be declared.
Q. What can you win?
A. The winner receives $15,000 worth of state-of-the-art Maytag® Appliances. PLUS, Manischewitz throws in a $7,000.00 check and a gift card to your favorite grocery store to get more Manischewitz products! Prize includes installation that does not require structural alterations to existing kitchen layout. Overall, more than $25,000 worth of prizes will be awarded in the contest. All Finalists will win an expense paid 2-day/1-night trip to Manischewitz Plant and Headquarters in Newark, NJ for the exciting Cook-Off showdown.
Q. Who can enter the Man-O-Manischewitz Cook-Off?
A. This contest is open to all amateur cooking enthusiasts in the 50 U.S. states and District of Columbia who are 18 or older as of November 19, 2012 and who have not been designated as Finalists in a previous Manischewitz Recipe Contest. Food professionals (e.g., chefs, food writers, food home economists who create recipes to sell) are not eligible.
Q. What should my recipe include?
A. Recipes are limited to 9 ingredients including the Manischewitz Ready-to-Serve Broth product of your choice. Not included in the 8 are plain salt, pepper, or water. You must include one other Manischewitz product of your choice to meet the recipe guidelines.
Q. What happens to my recipe once it is submitted?
A. A panel of judges will review all recipes and select the top 15 to be prepared in the Manischewitz test kitchen. Five finalists will then be selected to move on to the live Cook-Off in Newark, NJ. All submitted recipes become the property of Manischewitz and can be used in any promotional materials.
Q. What is the judging criteria?
A. PRELIMINARY JUDGING TO DETERMINE FIFTEEN (15) SEMI-FINALISTS:
JUDGING TO DETERMINE Four (4) FINALISTS: The 15 (fifteen) Semi-Finalist recipes will be prepared by a professional chef for judging by a panel of food experts to select 4 (four) final recipes. Judging to select 4 (four) Finalists will be based on the following criteria:
In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be based on the highest score for "taste." The 4 (four) top-scoring entries will be deemed Finalists, and will participate in the Grand Prize cook-off which will be held in Newark, NJ in March (date TBD), 2012. Finalists will be required to prepare their recipes exactly as submitted.
PLUS, America will vote for the one (1) remaining Finalist. Starting February 21, 2013 through February 28, 2013, five (5) additional top ranking contest entries will be posted for YOU to chose from. Isn't it nice to be heard? (Limit one vote per person per day).
GRAND PRIZE COOK-OFF: The five (5) Finalists will have 1 hour to prepare and cook their meals in front of a live audience at the Grand Prize Cook-Off. Judging to determine the Grand Prize winner will be accomplished by a panel of food experts and Manischewitz. Judging to select the Grand Prize winner will be based on the following criteria:
Q. Who pays for travel to the Cook-Off? A. A 2-day/1-night trip to the finals will be awarded to the 5 finalists by Manischewitz. (Please see the Official Rules for complete details on trip).
Q. What happens at the Cook-Off Finals?
A. The finals will be a live event. All finalists are given 1 hour to prepare their recipe which is then presented to and tasted by the panel of judges. Manischewitz will supply all necessary ingredients and supplies needed for the finals.
